2012 BREAKOUT SESSION TOPICS:
This year the general session topics were selected by a large volunteer committee comprised of member professionals and UWM and Marquette students. The list started off long and by consensus, was whittled down to the six topics you see listed below. Representative of many of the headlining sustainability topics during the past year, WGBA had no trouble filling these sessions with subject matter experts who were selected through a proposal RFP process launched to the professional community several months ago. Most presenters are regional although one person is traveling from out of state to present at his alma mater on the subject of Life Cycle Analysis. These topics represent an excellent selection of what is trending now, how professionals are talking about them, and what the practical application is for us:

  • The Economics of Green Building & Sustainability
  • Emerging Technologies: Energy Modeling, Geothermal, Biogas, Compressed Natural Gas
  • Green Schools & Education
  • Design for Urban Agriculture
  • Life Cycle Assessment & Bio-mimicry
  • The Miller Park LEED Certification: "Brewing Up Green"

GENERAL SESSIONS

CARBON CALCULATION
For the purpose of off-setting the carbon footprint of the conference with RECs (renewable energy certificates), Madison Environmental Group will estimate the greenhouse gas emissions from the conference using the World Resources Institute’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Using transportation and building energy consumption, MEG will estimate the CO2 equivalents generated by the conference. Transportation choices will be collected during registration in order to ensure more accurate data collection. Thank you for choosing an energy-efficient method of transportation to the SE2 conference!

SPONSORSHIP:
SE2 sponsors truly make this conference possible. Many of the conference sponsors you see below have supported this conference since the very first SE2 in 2000! Sponsorship of SE2 also provides great opportunity for new pathways and networks to be forged by companies wishing to debut their name and reputation in the building and design markets. Thanks so much to our sponsors old and new, not just for your support of this important event but for the great work you do year round to promote ecologically sustainable practices through your organization’s facilities and operations.

EXHIBITORS:
Exhibiting at the SE2 conference is exclusive because booths are limited! With approximately 40 booth spaces open to the public, reserve yours while they last! All booths include power, internet, table, two chairs, two tickets and one lunch. A new exhibitor feature this year gives all exhibitors an opportunity to present, in rapid fire style, in our Exhibitor Ignite presentation. See description below. Exhibitors represent sustainable practices and products across many fields including the built environment and manufacturing. Ignite Presentation for Exhibitors: Each exhibitor receives 3 minutes on the big stage to present their company along with a PowerPoint of 12 slides running on the big screen; image transition every 15 seconds.  Themes can range from a broad company profile to a very specific company aspect but are encouraged to present “fresh ideas” that IGNITE the audience on a subject, i.e. to generate awareness and to stimulate thought and action.  WGBA will provide the PowerPoint template for your slides and instructional guide to coach you through the process.  Slides must be sent in by e-mail (info@wgba.org) no later than September 24th to be scheduled for the program.

Speed Networking: Speed networking is a fun and effective meeting format designed to accelerate business contacts. Much like speed dating, speed networking involves multiple people gathering in a single space to exchange a lot of information in a short period of time. During the interaction, participants share their professional backgrounds and business goals in a two minute elevator speech and exchange business cards... when the bell rings, participants move on to the next person and repeat the process! It’s that easy and is a terrific opportunity to interact with and create quality connections with a lot of people in a short period of time!
